Technological progression

Technology is everywhere from the everyday home life, to even the billionaire corporations that tower over the cities across the nation. Tablets, Ipads, Ipods, Smartphones, Androids, and the mother of all “The Computer”. To this day technology pushes our imagination to new horizons. Through this modern age with the push of technology we can do things unimaginable to people from even 50 years ago. Think of all the things we have accomplished with technology; the Internet, Automobiles, airplanes, telephones, radios, and even TVs. We all encounter having to deal with technology and its up to us just how exactly we want to use it.
My first experience dealing with technology goes back to when I was much younger, my early school years. The christmas season was just around the corner and we were trying to gather all of our ideas together to see which christmas gift would be the best to pick. The top item on my list that had caught my idea for months because it was the new hot thing, The Sony Playstation. It had been out for quite sometime, but I recalled playing it a friends awhile back and I thought it was the greatest thing that the world had to offer. I vividly remember the colorful logo of the “P” and “S” entangled within one another plastered with a rainbow like color. The controllers were sleek, but also very simple. The controller contain four shapes on the right attended next to four directional buttons. The top of the controller was home to the the slim black rectangular

buttons (R1,R2,L1,L2) followed by the cord that ran out of the controller heading towards the actual console. The Playstation Console has a rectangular base, with a circular disc reader amounted to the top of the base. Sitting to the right and left of the reader were two smaller oval shaped buttons one to restart the console and the other to power it on and off. It was absolutely perfect, and thats all I could imagine wanting for christmas. Sure enough I got one for christmas, and from that moment my life had changed from that point on.
Twelve years have passed and the simplest of video game stations are now what tower the technology industry. In early 2006 Sony release the PS3, which changed the technology boom for good. The Sony PS3 has taken everything from music, blu-ray, internet, and gaming and combined them all together into this magnificent device. This gaming device has changed my life along with the way in which we gamers communicate through voice, chat, type, and even personally created avatars. Compared to the telephone or walkie-talkies the modern day gaming has taken that idea and wrapped it into the gameplay so you are constantly connected vocally over the serves that seem to dominate the gaming industries. This has changed my life because of how simply you can stay in touch with your friends even though they’re across the nation, and its instant.  Along with being connected all the time which minimizes the use for literacy, you can also now express yourself on a whole other level by customizing your own virtual avatars. This has changed the way we look at the way of communication because now we as gamers can express ourselves bye showing people

who we actually are compared to a simple bibliography filled out on your Facebook page.
With the impressive rate that technology is increasing such as the PS3 I feel that over time the boom of technology will potentially hurt the human race. I say this because the use of technology has taught and helped us ease bye the fundamentals of reading and writing. There is no need to learn how to spell now with the use of spell check. They say that bye the year 2014 we will create a computer smarter than the human mind, if technology goes that far will it ever stop its rapid growth rate? Being submerged with technology Im not intimated bye it what so ever, but the thing that scares me like i mentioned earlier is the rapid growth we are seeing. Look at the movie i-robot for instance. In this movie the humans have created robots to do everything for them and then eventually they gain enough smarts to turn against the humans. Theories like this are scary to me although I do appreciate the use of technology and how simple it has made life.
In conclusion throughout my whole life i’ve been surrounded with the constant change in technology. I’ve seen the most basic cassette player become an iPod touch with retina display. Im sure with the expansion of technology on a constant increase that   bye the time I’m nearing retirement I will see cars that fly and cities that float. All in which will play a drastic role in my life and how technology has and will continue to effect my life on a small and large effect.

  1. The way you described everything about the Playstation, from the colors of the logo to the buttons on the controller, show you are able to easily create images in the minds of your readers. Were there any particular experiences with certain games that you remember?

  2. This was a well thought out and written paper. I thought that the way you transitioned from paragraph to paragraph was brilliantly done. Your paper really involves the reader into the conversation of the PS1 and the PS3. You used the right amount of description through out the entirety of the paper. Overall, this was a great paper!!

  3. The intro was strong the instant visual of towering buildings and modernized technology was a great setup. You obviously have a firm grasp on showing not telling I applaud you for that. The only thing is that I felt that I was reading two different papers tied together by generation gaps, other than that a fantastic paper!
